It’s home sweet home Friday for the first time this year for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team when they entertain Anamosa in their River Valley Conference opener. The Hawks are 1-1 this year after splitting road dates to open the season, winning at Fairfield last week 59-42 and dropping a contest to No. 5 Benton Tuesday in Van Horne 66-43. On the season, the Golden Hawks are averaging 51 points per game and giving up 54, shooting 33% from the floor, 35% from three and 69% at the line with 42 rebounds, eight assists, nine steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Amara Jones scoring 13 points per game with four assists and four steals. Landry Pacha is pulling in a team best eight boards per night.
Anamosa is 0-2 this season with losses to Washington and Wilton by a combined 109-31 score. They lost to the Beavers on the road Tuesday 47-12. For the year, the Blue Raiders are scoring 16 points per game and giving up 55, shooting 18% from the floor and have not made a three point goal. They average 15 rebounds, three steals and 15 turnovers per game. Norah Humpal leads the team with nine points per night, Jachel Burns and Sophie Sander have five boards per game. Mid-Prairie has won all four meetings between the two schools including a 65-20 win in January. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. At Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
