The Columbus Community School Board met in regular session on Monday. Presentations from FFA students and the Music Department led off the night. Students were able to share their recap of the National FFA Convention, while Scott Teater spoke about the success and progress made with the band and choir.
In the business portion of the regular session, the board discussed a request for a school resource officer. According to Superintendent Jeff Maeder, “That was a concern expressed by some parents at the beginning of the meeting, and we have been looking into that for the last month or so. Our two other county schools both have school resource officers, so we feel like that is something that would benefit us here as well.” The conversation will be ongoing.
Transitioning to their annual meeting, the board re-elected Andy White and Tom Howell as President and Vice President, respectively.
While discussing new business, the board approved two requests for modified allowable growth and supplemental aid regarding open enrollment out along with limited English proficient programs. Additionally, January 13 was selected for an all-day in-service day for staff to review and practice emergency planning procedures.
The Columbus Community Board of Education’s next meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 19 in the Columbus Administration Building.
