The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams travel to River Valley Conference North opponent Northeast Goose Lake for a doubleheader Saturday. The Golden Hawk boys are 1-0 this year after a come-from-behind 71-66 win at Benton to open the season Tuesday. After trailing by 16 early and 12 at half the Hawks stormed back behind 23 points from Alex Bean, 20 in the second half, 16 from Dylan Henry and 10 from Camron Pickard. Mid-Prairie shot 41% from the floor and hit 12 three pointers while winning the boards by nine, dishing out 16 assists and coming away with 10 steals.

The Northeast boys won their opener 60-54 over Durant. They shot 43% overall and had just five turnovers. Gavin Kramer scored a game high 24 and Jimmy Weispfenning added 11. The Rebels have won seven of the 10 all-time meetings between the two schools, but the Hawks have taken the last three, including both games a season ago, the last a 74-43 win at substate in Muscatine.

The Golden Hawk girls are 2-1 after wins over Fairfield and Anamosa and a loss to Benton so far this year. On the season, the Golden Hawks are averaging 51 points per game and giving up 54, shooting 33% from the floor, 35% from three and 69% at the line with 42 rebounds, eight assists, nine steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Amara Jones scoring 13 points per game with four assists and four steals. Landry Pacha is pulling in a team best eight boards per night.

Northeast is 1-0 after a 49-35 win over Durant Tuesday. The Rebels overcame one of 14 shooting from three and 16 turnovers to beat the Wildcats going away, thanks to a 22 point 13 rebound double double from Alyssa Fowler. The Golden Hawks have won seven of the last nine in the series including a 56-51 victory last season. Action gets underway at 1:30 this afternoon in Goose Lake.
