KCII was able to speak with Senator Grassley and get his thoughts on the Farm Bill hearings scheduled for 2023. Grassley tells KCII News, “Let’s see, there are three or four things that I am hearing from farmers.  Keep crop insurance pretty much like it is right now because of the increase in input costs. You know, fertilizer, feed, diesel, and all that stuff. They think it probably doesn’t affect the crop insurance program, but the other protections that we have, I think farmers think they need to be increased a little bit. As long as corn is six/seven dollars, it’s not so much an issue, but if you go back to corn between three and a half to four dollars like it was for seven or eight years prior to two years ago, that would be a major help. Then more money for what we call foreign agriculture sales, where we promote the export of our surplus agriculture products overseas.  More money for agriculture research, and then maybe some tweaking of the CRP program. ” The Farm Bill is passed every five years and plays a key role to support America’s farmers, ranchers, and forest stewards through a variety of safety net, farm loan, conservation, and disaster assistance programs.
