The Keota Eagles continued a perfect start to the high school boys’ basketball season with a resounding 69-41 win Friday night over their rivals from Sigourney. The Savages hung tough in the first half, keeping the game tied at 15 after one quarter and only trailing 33-28 at halftime. But a 20-3 third period allowed Keota to pull away for good, as the Eagles cruised to 4-0 with a big second half.
Keota used a balanced attack on offense to seize victory. Three players were in double-figure scoring for the Eagles, led by junior Sawyer Stout’s 14 points. Evan Vittetoe finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots, while fellow junior Cole Kindred also had a strong night with 13 points, five boards and seven assists. Sigourney did defeat Keota 45-32 in the girls’ game, getting their first win in three games this season and dropping the Eagles to 1-4. But the Savage boys fall to 1-2 ahead of both Sigourney teams hosting Columbus this evening. The Keota boys are now 5-0, with both Eagle teams next in action tomorrow night against Iowa Valley
