Washington, Mid-Prairie and WACO sent girls wrestlers to the Williamsburg Raider Invite Monday. Twenty area grapplers competed in a field of more than 250.

The Washington Demons had a pair of runners-up with Jillian Langstraat in the 110C bracket and Tegan Sulentich in the 155A bracket both finishing second after 2-1 nights. Jenna Bose was also fourth for Washington. After the tournament, Demon head coach Brent Van Weelden talked about his team’s highlights. “This is Jillian’s (Langstraat) first meet back this year. She’s been injured. She has a real good go-behind. Great tournament for her to go out and get a couple wins. Tegan (Sulentich) wrestled the Peach girl at home the other night, I thought we wrestled a better match tonight. Jenna (Bose) got a win first round, she wrestles real tough. She fights. Peggy (Miller) just won at the end with a fall. Zoe (Lewis) has been on the mat maybe a month now. I’m really pleased with the way they’re working.”

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks were led by Marissa Cline’s title in the 140C bracket, as she scored a fall to win gold over Morgan Pence of Cedar Rapids Prairie. She spoke after the tournament with KCII sports about the championship. “It was a pretty tough match. I just went out there and believed in myself. I stood on that mat and I was like ‘I’m ready, I’m ready to go, let’s do this!’ Picking bottom, not being able to get out. Fighting through it. She tied up with me and tried to throw me and I kind of just flopped on her a little bit and got it real tight, just pinned her. Feels good to come home with a medal!”

Other top Hawks included two runners-up with Ashlee Farrier at 130A and Grace Conway at 140B, Gabi Robertson at 105, Mardie Berry at 145B and Sam Stacey at 235B all placed third.

The WACO Warriors were led by Bralyyn Wagler’s title in the 235A bracket. She beat Emma Cook of Colfax-Mingo in the championship match by fall and spoke with KCII sports about the win. “She was my only loss this season at the BGM Tournament. I’m really excited that I won that match. The first period was all on our feet. I got on top the third period and was able to keep her down. It was really good. I was really excited. It’s a boost of confidence because I was really in my head last year, so I’m really working on my mentality this year.”

The Warriors also had four finish in fourth place including Rylee Rice at 115A, Heaven Steege at 120A, Destiny Boone at 170B and Grace Fort 190A.
