The next chapter of the Hillcrest Academy and Lone Tree basketball rivalry will be written on the hardwood of Dwight Gingerich Court at Hillcrest Union tonight when the Ravens welcome the Lions to Kalona in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The Raven girls enter play in search of their first win on the season at 0-4, 0-2 in league play after a 66-10 loss Saturday at Bellevue Marquette. The Ravens are scoring 24 points per game and giving up 54, shooting 29% from the floor, 25% from three and 69% at the line to go with 21 boards, two assists, five steals and 20 turnovers per night. Individually they are led by Claire Withrow’s 11 points per game. Delaney Shaw averages nine boards and an assist with Malia Yoder grabbing three steals per game.
Lone Tree is 4-2 this year, 2-1 in the Superconference after a 38-29 win over another rival, Highland, in double overtime Friday. On the year, Lone Tree is scoring 35 per game and giving up 40, shooting 23% from the floor, 18% from three and 41% at the line to go with 29 boards, seven assists, 13 steals and 19 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Finley Jacque at eight points and three steals per night. Rylee Shield has six boards, and Vivian Zaruba two assists. The Lady Lions have won 23 of the last 29 in the series including five straight with 50-44 and 52-40 wins a season ago.
The Hillcrest boys are 1-1, with a win over Highland and loss to Bellevue Marquette in their opening week. The Ravens are scoring 54 per game and giving up 38, shooting 43% from the floor, 29% from the long range and 35% at the line with 27 boards, 15 assists, 13 steals and 12 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Grant Bender at 12 points and six boards per game. Luke Schrock has five assists and three steals on average.
Lone Tree is 1-3 on the year, their lone win coming in their last game Friday 70-39 over rival Highland. For the season, the Lions put up 54 points per game and give up 55, shooting 38% from the floor, 27% from long range and 56% at the stripe with 37 boards, 16 assists, 10 steals and 18 giveaways per game. Individually they are led by Ethan Bockelman at 11 points per night. Mitch Koedam has seven boards and Emett Burke five assists and three steals per outing. Hillcrest has won 6 of the last nine in the series including three-in-a-row with 58-40 and 69-44 victories a season ago.
