On Saturday, December 3 at approximately 10:04 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, along with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at the 700 block of Main Street in Mt. Pleasant.

According to the call, a male subject was being held at gunpoint. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the subject was seen calling for help from the bathroom window. He was able to safely exit the building through that window, at which time officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect produced a weapon, forcing an officer to discharge their weapon. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the arm during the altercation.

Per protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on Critical Incident Leave while the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) investigates the incident. At this time, names of the officer, as well as the suspect are being withheld.
