The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams split a River Valley Conference doubleheader with West Liberty in Wellman Tuesday. The Golden Hawk girls led early, but fell late by a 55-50 score. Mid-Prairie led 16-15 after the first and by a slim 31-29 count at the break. West Liberty took the lead for good in the third, on top 42-39 going to the final period, which the Comets won 13-11 to finish the win. The Hawks hit 10 threes on the night but shot just 32% for the game in total. Amara Jones had 11 points, Landry Pacha and Kylie Reinier had eight each. Mid-Prairie is 2-3 on the year, West Liberty is 2-2.
The Golden Hawk boys remained unbeaten with a 71-41 win over West Liberty. Mid-Prairie sprinted to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and enjoyed a 36-25 advantage at half. Out of the locker room it was another Mid-Prairie run, 20-6, during the third to grow the lead to 25 going to the fourth, before closing out the win. The Hawks shot 44% from the floor, pulled in 43 boards and had 15 team assists. Camron Pickard posted a game high 20 on eight of 11 shooting. Collin Miller scored 11 and Ace Peck had 10.
Mid-Prairie is now 3-0. The Golden Hawk boys and girls travel to West Branch Friday.
