The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team put one of two duals into the win column Thursday in Iowa City as they battled Monticello and the home Regals in River Valley Action. Mid-Prairie started the night against the Panthers, dropping the dual 58-18. The Hawks got wins in contested matches from Dom Shively by fall at 160lbs and Owen Trimpe by fall at 170lbs.

In the nightcap, the Hawks met the rival Regals on their home mat in a tough environment with Regina celebrating Senior Night, but it was the Hawks that had the party, beating Regina 51-30. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Jesse Stultz at 106lbs by fall, Mose Yoder at 120 by fall, Mason Howe at 126 by 12-1 major decision, Tucker Miller at 132 by 17-2 tech fall, Noah Freeman at 138 by fall, Dom Shively at 160 by fall, and Owen Trimpe at 170 by fall. After the meet, Trimpe, who went 2-0 on the day, to remain unbeaten at 8-0 for the year, talked about his wins and his keys so far this season. “(In the first match) early he shot, I defended, I got the same kind of thing I got at New London with double underhooks. Finished it out, repositioned, got the pin really early. (In the second match) I got the first shot to take him down. I’ve been drilling in practice to lock the leg and roll over with him. That got him to his back where I could work the half and finish him off for the day. This year I have been wrestling the full six or eight minutes, taking shots, and working through every position that I can.”

With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 3-5 on the dual season and hosts their home Colton Allen Memorial Tournament Saturday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
