It’s afternoon basketball Saturday at Hillcrest Union when the Ravens welcome Winfield-Mt. Union for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The Hillcrest girls are 0-6 after a loss in Letts to Louisa-Muscatine Friday. For the year, Hillcrest is scoring 24 per night and giving up 41, shooting 29% from the floor, 24% from three and 65% at the line with 26 boards, three assists, six steals and 27 turnovers per game. Individually, Malia Yoder and Claire Withrow put up nine points each per night. Yoder leads with three steals and two assists per game. Delaney Shaw has seven boards per night. The Winfield-Mt. Union girls are 7-0 following a 59-31 win at Wapello Friday. The Wolves are ranked No. 15 in Class 1A in the first poll of the year issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They score 58 per game and give up 27, shooting 42% from the floor 37% from three and 55% at the line with 25 rebounds, 13 assists, 11 steals and 13 turnovers per game. The Wolves have won five straight in the series, 20 of the last 24 overall including 66-34 and 60-15 victories last season.

The Hillcrest boys are 3-1 after a win at Louisa-Muscatine Friday 81-67 behind a career high 41 points from senior Grant Bender. This year, Hillcrest is scoring 62 points per game and giving up 41, shooting 48% from the floor, 40% from downtown and 50% at the line with 25 boards, 17 assists, 15 steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individually, Bender is scoring 16 per game to lead the team to go with his best six boards per night. Luke Schrock has a team best four assists and four steals per game.

Winfield-Mt. Union comes in with a 2-1 mark after a dominating 55-20 win at Wapello Friday. On the season, the Wolves are scoring 57 points per game and giving up 35, shooting 37% from the floor, 28% from three and 59% at the line with 29 boards, 11 assists, seven steals, five blocks and eight turnovers per game. Individually, they are led by 19 points from Cam Buffington per night. Abram Edwards has a team best 10 rebounds and two blocks. Jake Edwards averages five assists and Andrew Brown two steals. Hillcrest has won 25 of the last 31 in the series, but the Wolves won all three meetings last year, 42-33 and 54-28 in the regular season along with a 48-43 playoff win.
