The Columbus Wildcats looked very strong in splitting four duals at Colfax-Mingo on Saturday. Columbus defeated North Hoover-Des Moines 60-12 and beat the host Colfax-Mingo 51-18. Even the dual losses were close, as the Wildcats fell 39-36 to Hudson and lost 46-30 to Notre Dame-West Burlington.

A total of seven individual Columbus wrestlers won multiple bouts to help the Wildcats rack up points. Senior Kai Malone was perfect at 220 pounds with three pins, as was junior Russell Coil at 285. Junior Ty Scorpil wasn’t unbeaten on the day but did win three bouts with a pin. Sophomore Riley Kaalberg won his first bout on a 9-4 decision before picking up a pair of pins at 182, while senior Dante Zuniga won decisions 15-11 and 11-5 before getting a pin to wrap up his day at 152 lbs.

Freshman Bowen Thomson and junior Cole Storm each picked up a pair of pins at 126 and 170, respectively. Pins for sophomore Jacob Nelson at 106 and Ian Estudillo at 113 rounded out the scoring for Columbus, which will next host a home quadrangular on Thursday.
