The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams welcome the Wilton Beavers to Wellman Tuesday for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Mid-Prairie girls are 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in the River Valley after a grinding 37-29 win at West Branch on Friday. The Hawks were led by Amara Jones double double with 10 points and 10 steals. On the year, they are scoring 50 points per game and giving up 47 while shooting 33% from the floor, 26% from long range, and 60% at the line with 38 rebounds, 10 assists, 13 steals and 15 turnovers per game. Amara Jones leads the way at 12 points per game with five assists and five steals per night. Landry Pacha is also in double figures at 10 points per game and is the leading rebounder with seven per night.
The Wilton Beavers are 3-3 on the year, 2-1 in league play. They fell to Regina 63-34 on Friday despite a double double of 10 points and 12 boards from Charlotte Brown. On the year, the Beavers are scoring 42 per game while giving up 39, shooting 30% from the floor, 19% from three and 51% at the line with 45 boards, nine assists, 13 steals and 17 turnovers. Brown is the team leader with 11 points and 13 rebounds per night. Jozalynn Zaiser leads the guard court with three steals and two assists per game. The Hawks have won 20 of the last 30 in the series, but Wilton has won seven of the last nine. The two teams split a year ago, with the Hawks winning in Wellman 43-38 and the Beavers in Wilton 67-36.
The Mid-Prairie boys are 3-1 this year overall and in conference after suffering their first setback of the season Friday in West Branch 64-56, despite a career high 23 points from Camron Pickard and a 14 point night from Alex Bean. On the year, Mid-Prairie is scoring 65 points per game and giving up 53, shooting 40% from the floor, 27% from three and 70% at the line with 38 boards, 14 assists, eight steals and 11 turnovers per night. Individually, Pickard holds the team lead at 16 points, five assists and two steals per night. Alex Bean is in double figures at 15 per game with a team best seven rebounds per night.
Wilton is 3-0 overall and in conference after rolling Regina 76-42 Friday behind a 31 point 11 rebound double double from Caden Kirkman. The Beavers average a state best 85 points per game and give up just 47, shooting 51% from the floor, 40% from three and 67% at the line with 37 rebounds, 20 assists, 19 steals and nine turnovers. Kirkman leads way with his state best 32 points per game to go a team best 12 boards and five assists per game. Landyn Putman is also in double figures at 19 points per game, so is Aidan Walker at 11 points and Walker has a team best five steals per night. The Hawks have won 23 of the last 33 against Wilton including 13 straight, sweeping the series last year by scores of 62-51 and 84-53.
