The Columbus Wildcats came up short in a boys’ basketball conference matchup Tuesday night, falling to Wapello 52-26 in Columbus Junction. The Wildcats were able to take a 9-8 lead after one quarter, but that would be flipped into a four-point Wapello advantage heading into halftime, and the Indians only pulled away from there in the second half.
Columbus couldn’t contain Wapello junior Jackson Lanz, who poured in a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Daniel Martinez led the Wildcats with eight points scored, while junior Oscar Alcala added five points and three rebounds. Columbus falls to 1-4 in the Super Conference North and 1-6 overall. The Wildcats visit Winfield-Mount Union in their next game tomorrow evening.
