An AirCare Helicopter will operate from the WCHC helipad to improve emergency response times within Southeast Iowa. Beginning December 15, 2022, the helicopter will be on site on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday of each week from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The Air Care helicopter will be operated by Air Methods, staffed by the University of Iowa Health Care, and will be able to provide more accessible transport care to critical patients with decreased response times to WCHC and Southeast Iowa. While the AirCare helicopter is onsite, WCHC will also benefit from having additional staffing from the UIHC flight nurse and the UIHC helicopter paramedic on an as-needed basis. Residents located near the helipad can expect approximately three to four takeoffs per day while the helicopter is onsite. The crew will also take note of their flight patterns and vary their routes as much as possible. Noise from the helicopter will occur expeditiously and will only be apparent during take offs and landings. Fencing, lights and cameras have been placed around the helipad for safety measures.
