The Keota School Board met in regular session on Thursday, December 8.
Billie Kindred was re-elected as Board President, and Pat Hammen will remain the Vice President.
The board approved a fencing project bid from D & N Fence out of Cedar Rapids. According to Superintendent Jim Henrich, “We are looking to replace the current four foot fence at the high school baseball field with six foot all the way around, and then put up a 40 foot backstop for some safety reasons. So that will start after the baseball season in 2023.” An early dismissal on January 30 was also approved to clear out the school for State Show Choir.
In his Superintendent Report, Henrich stated that the school is continuing to get estimates on costs and options for locker room pipes that have been causing problems. The high school also had a threat assessment conducted by a retired NYPD detective, with the report expected to be issued in three to four weeks. Each building is eligible for $50,000 dollars in safety upgrades, and the report will help prioritize those.
The Keota School Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 5 p.m. in the Elementary Media Library.
