The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams host long time rival Solon Monday in a non-conference doubleheader at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Mid-Prairie girls come into the night with a 5-4 record, 3-2 in the River Valley and winners of three straight, after a 66-22 road pounding of Durant Friday. Amara Jones and Maya Nonnenmann each posted a dozen points and Jovi Evans got to double figures with 11. On the year, the Hawks score 52 points per game and give up 43, shooting 34% from the floor, 24% from three, 57% at the line, with 37 boards, 11 assists, 13 steals and 15 turnovers. Individual leaders include, Jones at 11 points, five assists five steals per night and Landry Pacha at seven rebounds per game.

Solon is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the WAMAC East. The Spartans beat the Marion Wolves 50-38 last time out led by Callie Levin’s 19 points and a 10 point, 11 rebound double double from Anna Quillin. The Spartans are ranked No. 6 in Class 3A in the latest poll issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They are averaging 60 points per game and giving up 47, shooting 39% from the floor, 27% from long range and 63% at the line with 33 boards, 12 assists, 12 steals and 13 turnovers per game. They are led individually by Iowa Hawkeye commit Levin at 20 points and three steals per game. Quillin averages eight boards per night and Hailey Miller four assists. Solon has won seven of the last 10 in the series. These teams have not met since a 50-37 Solon win in 2013. Mid-Prairie’s last win came in 2011.

The Mid-Prairie boys are 5-2 on the year, 2-2 in the River Valley, and winners of back-to-back games after a 67-50 road victory at Durant Friday where Camron Pickard put up 19 points, Alex Bean 18 and Dylan Henry 15. On the year, the Hawks are scoring 63 per night, giving up 54, shooting 36% overall, 26% from three, 71% from the line with 37 boards, 12 assists, 10 steals and 12 turnovers per night. Bean leads the way at 16 points, seven boards and two steals per night. Pickard’s four assists per game are best.

The Solon boys are 3-2 on the year, 2-2 in the WAMAC East after a 70-52 loss to Marion on Friday, despite 26 points from Jake Benzing. On the year, Solon scores 63 per night and gives up 49 on 40% shooting overall, 32% from three and 66% at the line with 30 rebounds, 15 assists, 14 steals and 14 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Benzing at 19 points and seven boards per night. Sean Stahle leads the guard court with three assists and two steals per night. Solon has won 10 of the last 11 in the series. These teams have not met since 2013, a 63-62 Spartan win. Mid-Prairie’s last victory over Solon came 55-52 in 2009.
