The Washington Demon wrestling team put on a good show over two days at the Fort Madison Invitational this weekend. Washington picked up seven medalists and finished eighth as a team. The top individual finish for the Demons came from sophomore Aaron Boone, who was the runner-up at 120 pounds. After two pins and a technical knockout in pool play Friday, Boone picked up a pin in the quarterfinals and won on a 6-4 decision in the semifinals the next day. Boone would drop a 5-2 decision in the final to CJ Davis of Notre Dame-West Burlington.
Washington freshman Caden Greiner ended up third at 126 lbs, while sophomore Jude Carter and junior Chase Greiner were fifth at 138 and 160, respectively. The Demons also got medals from senior Colley Billingsly in sixth at 220; junior Lane Schrock in seventh at 145; and senior Jack Kleese in eighth at 132.
The Columbus Wildcats had the top team finish from the area, placing seventh thanks to six medalists. Juniors Ty Scorpil and Russell Coil were third at 120 and 285, respectively, while junior Ian Estudillo earned fourth at 113; sophomore Jacob Nelson was sixth at 106; senior Kai Malone was seventh at 220; and senior Ethan Palmer was eighth at 220.
The Highland Huskies picked up four medalists, including senior Carlos Valenzuela picking up the title at 132 lbs. Junior Jack Peiffer was sixth at 152, while freshman Brock Thomann and sophomore Isaac Kleese were eighth in their respective weight classes.
