The WACO Warriors kept up the pace on a terrific wrestling season by taking second as a team at the BGM Holiday Duals Tuesday night in Brooklyn. WACO wrestled like some mean ones in their “Grinch Bouts,” defeating Tripoli 48-24 and Moravia 45-36. After losing their only dual of the night 78-0 to Wilton, the Warriors bounced back to beat Collins-Maxwell 54-12 and wrapped things up by taking down the host BGM Bears 54-21.
The night was another exhibition for the talents of WACO’s Louden Huisenga. Despite dropping an 11-4 decision, the sophomore pinned his other four opponents at 160 pounds. Junior John Mclaughlin picked up two pins at 120 lbs and also won on a 6-4 sudden victory. Junior Quiroz won with a pair of sudden victories, picking up 9-7 and 4-2 wins at 138. Junior Jonathan Heather also won twice, getting a pair of pins at 285.
The Warriors also got pins to win from senior Drew Diers at 220; freshman Levi Bachman at 145; sophomore Braden Stafford at 170; and sophomore Gage Samo at 113. WACO will next wrestle after the holidays January 5th at home versus Highland and Louisa-Muscatine.
