Mid-Prairie girls wrestling standout Mia Garvey will continue her academic and athletic career next year at Simpson College in Indianola. Garvey, a senior, holds the Golden Hawk girls records for career victories with 47 and career pins with 41, both of which she set earlier this season. She has a 47-37 career record at Mid-Prairie. Garvey spoke recently with KCII Sports about making the decision to join the Storm. “I decided to go there when I learned I could be in the choir, be on the wrestling team and they had what I wanted for classes and school. My Dad knows coach (Jeff) McGinness so he was talking to him. When I went there for my visit, we talked to coach for a few hours probably. He told me that I’m a very strong person and I don’t give up easily. That was what he really liked. He said that in a lot of the matches that he’s watched, when I did get taken down, the second I had the chance to get back up I looked angry. It’s two hours away, but I also don’t want to be too far away because family is my everything.”

While on campus in Indianola she plans to study forensic science. The Golden Hawks will next be on the mat January 7th at the North Scott Tournament.
