Johnson County Engineer, Greg Parker spoke at the Board of Supervisors meeting on December 21 to review department accomplishments in 2022 and discuss road projects for the new year.
One such project includes a pavement rehabilitation for 540th Street SW. In the upcoming spring and summer, plans are scheduled to work on the section of road from Gable Avenue SW to Highway 1. Eventually, work will extend west to Calkins Avenue SW alongside Hillcrest Academy. The entire project is expected to cost $4.1 million.
Additionally, two bridge projects are expected to begin in the spring. One bridge-replacement will take place on James Avenue SW, north of 540th Street. The other work includes a bridge on Utah Avenue SE that runs over Buck Creek, northwest of Lone Tree. Combined, those projects are expected to total over $1 million.
Funding for these projects comes from the 2023 budget, which sits at just over $17.5 million. For a complete list of projects, visit johnsoncountyiowa.gov/department-of-secondary-roads.
