Doug McIntyre began his role as the new Wayland Police Chief in December. Now with one month under his belt, he is excited to continue serving his community.

Originally from Wayland, McIntyre studied criminal justice before spending 10 years working with at-risk youth at the Christamore Family Treatment Center in Mount Pleasant. More recently, he was a correction officer for the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

By accepting the Police Chief position, McIntyre has reached his goal of becoming a police officer, and looks forward to using his previous experience to serve the citizens of Wayland. “My interest in law enforcement basically was the fact that we’re helping other people. I like being a role model and leader,” he said.

Despite the fast-paced environment, McIntyre feels that the transition has gone smoothly, and hopes to continue building his relationships within the community. “My door is always open,” he said. “Feel free to stop when [you] see me patrolling the streets to talk. I am here, and I will do all I can to assist.”

With the new year underway, McIntyre looks forward to continuing his training and being a positive presence in Wayland.
