The body of 48-year-old Michael Steven Bishop was discovered on Monday in the Mississippi River, according to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. Bishop had been missing since the evening of December 18.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. Monday, sonar located a silver pickup in the Mississippi River, south of the Toolesboro Landing near the mouth of the Iowa River. The vehicle was confirmed to be Bishop’s, and was recovered at approximately 8:15 p.m. It was then confirmed that Bishop was found deceased inside the vehicle. No foul play is suspected in his death.
Along with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the search and rescue efforts were assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Wapello Fire and Rescue, Towboat Diving Services, Muscatine Search and Rescue, Chaos Divers, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Army Corps of Engineers, and the Louisa County Emergency Management Team.
