After a strong first half of the season, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team is receiving statewide recognition. In the most recent Class 2A top 10 Associated Press poll, the Hawks were one of the teams listed in the receiving votes category. Mid-Prairie posted a pre-Christmas record of 5-3 overall, 2-2 in the River Valley Conference. The Golden Hawks lead 2A in made free throws, are fourth in team free throw percentage, sixth in 2A in total free throw attempts, sixth in Class 2A in total rebounds and offensive rebounds, seventh in 2A in made three point goals and 10th in total points scored. Individually, senior Alex Bean leads Mid-Prairie, scoring 16 points and pulling in seven boards per game. He is fourth in 2A in made free throws and sixth in total attempts. Senior Camron Pickard averages just over four assists per game, eighth best in 2A, to go with his 15 points per night. Sophomore Brady Weber is one of only 12 boys players remaining in the state who are still perfect at the free throw line, and junior Beau Flynn is ninth in Class 2A, shooting 68% from the floor.

The Golden Hawks will be tested next time they take the court, drawing Camanche in Saturday’s River Valley Conference Tournament on the campus of Kirkwood Community College. The Storm are 6-2 on the season and also receiving votes in the latest AP 2A poll.
