The Lone Tree Lions were able to secure a key girls’ basketball road win against conference rival Wapello, 46-42, on Tuesday night. Lone Tree took a 15-9 lead one quarter in and stayed in front the rest of the night, using stingy defense to stretch the lead to as much as 11 going into the final period.
While the Lions got plenty of stops, freshman Finley Jacque had a huge offensive night off the bench, hitting four three-point shots and scoring a game-high 22 points. Classmate Alyson Ford had 10 points, while sophomore Rylee Shield put up seven points, 11 rebounds and two assists to help Lone Tree improve to 7-5 overall. The Lions, who had lost three of their previous four games, also move to 3-3 in conference play.
The Lone Tree boys lost 63-42 in their game at Wapello Tuesday evening. What was only a four-point deficit for the Lions after a quarter of play grew to double digits at the half, and even when the Indians’ lead was back to single digits in the second half, Wapello eventually pulled away. Lone Tree falls to 1-6 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 3-8 overall. Both Lion teams return to action tomorrow night at home against Winfield-Mount Union.
