The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams hit the road for Williamsburg Monday to matchup with the Raiders in a non-conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game with a 5-5 mark on the season, 3-2 in the River Valley. Due to scheduling and weather, they have been off since December 19th when they fell to No. 6 Solon 48-43. Mid-Prairie is scoring 51 points per game and giving up 44, shooting 35% from the floor, 25% from three and 58% at the line with 38 boards, sixth most in Class 3A, 11 assists, 13 steals, 10th most in 3A, and 16 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Amara Jones at 11 points, five assists, eighth most in 3A and five steals per night, fourth in 3A. Landry Pacha has a team best seven boards per night.
Williamsburg is 2-8 on the year, 2-4 in the WAMAC Conference. Last time out, the Raiders were also beaten by Solon 67-35. On the year, Williamsburg is averaging 42 points per game and giving up 59, shooting 38% from the floor, 27% from long range and 58% at the line with 21 boards, six assists, seven steals and 15 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Makenna Hughes with 12 points and two assists per game. Clara Sinclair has a team best six boards per night and Carly Rich two steals per game. Williamsburg has won eight of the last 12 in the series, including three straight with a 40-37 win last year in Wellman.
The Mid-Prairie boys are 6-3, 3-2 in the River Valley Conference after a thrilling 57-55 win at Kirkwood Community College Saturday over Camanche. On the year, the Hawks are scoring 62 per game and giving up 56, shooting 38% from the floor, 30% from deep and a fifth in Class 2A 71% at the line with 35 boards, 13 assists, nine steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Camron Pickard at 17 points and four assists per night. Alex Bean pulls in a team best six boards with two steals per night.
Williamsburg is 6-1 on the year, 4-0 in the WAMAC Conference after a wild 72-70 win over Mount Vernon Friday. On the season, the Raiders are averaging 68 points per game and giving up 55, shooting a Class 3A leading 50% from the floor, 30% from three and a second in Class 3A 70% at the line with 28 boards, 15 assists, eight steals and 11 turnovers per night. Derek Weisskopf leads the Raiders at 15 points, seven boards, four assists and two steals per night. These two schools have split their last eight meetings, with Mid-Prairie winning 76-71 in Wellman a year ago.
