Iowa City Regina is 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the River Valley Conference after a 64-57 loss at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids Saturday to state ranked Monticello in the River Valley Conference Shoot Out. Individual Regal leaders include Michael Martin at 13 points, Streb with eight rebounds and Petersen with three assists and two steals per night. Monday, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about the challenges the Regals present. “They got some new guys, mixed with some guys that saw some time last year and a couple of post players that are big. They play within themselves, they don’t try to do too much. They mix up some pressure and play in the half court a little bit. They are an athletic bunch. It’s Regina. They are always going to have athletes. They are going to be physical. They want to win. They haven’t beaten us in a while. They are going to be excited to play in a new arena just like we are. We have to be ready to go.”
Regina has won 22 of the last 34 in the series but the Hawks have taken four straight including 55-24 and 69-50 victories a season ago.
