A pair of KCII area schools meet Tuesday in Kalona for a Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball doubleheader when the Highland Huskies visit the Hillcrest Academy Ravens. The Hillcrest boys come into the game with a 6-4 overall record and 6-2 standing in the Superconference after a 61-51 setback against Danville Saturday, where Grant Bender scored 16, Luke Schrock 13 and Seth Ours 12 points. On the year, the Ravens post 58 points per game and give up 57, shooting 52% from the floor, 41% from three and 50% at the line with 22 rebounds, 14 assists, 12 steals and 10 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Bender at 18 points and five boards per game with Schrock at four assists and three steals per night.
Highland is 1-9 on the season, 0-7 in the Superconference after a 63-17 loss to Pekin last night. The Huskies score 31 per game and give up 66, shooting 32% from the floor, 19% from three and 45% at the line with 21 rebounds, four assists, six steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Logan Bonebrake at nine points and six boards per night. Logan McFarland averages two steals and an assist per game. Hillcrest has won 26 of the last 33 in the series including five straight with a 71-13 victory over Highland to open the year where Bender scored 13, Ours 11 and Josiah Beachy 10 points, Bonebrake paced Highland with nine.
The Hillcrest girls come into the night in search of their first win on the year, at 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the Superconference after a 39-18 loss to Columbus on Friday. This year the Ravens are scoring 20 points per game and giving up 50, shooting 24% overall, 25% from three and 53% at the line with 21 boards, three assists, five steals and 21 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Claire Withrow at 10 points per game, Delaney Shaw with seven boards per night and Malia Yoder with two steals and an assist per outing.
Highland is 4-7 on the year, 3-5 in the Superconference after edging Pekin on the road Monday 43-41. This season the Huskies are scoring 40 points per game and giving up 43, shooting 33% from the floor, 16% from downtown and 49% at the line with 35 boards, 12 assists, 12 steals and 23 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Sarah Burton with a double double average 18 points and 12 rebounds to go with a team best four steals and three blocks. Katelyn Waters paces Highland with six assists per game. The Huskies have won 23 of the last 25 in the series including a 51-24 victory over the Ravens earlier this year, just after Thanksgiving where Burton had a 20 point 11 board double double and Jessica Kraus had 12 points for Highland while Claire Withrow put up nine points for the Ravens.
