Tuesday was another night of excellence in Southeast Iowa Super Conference basketball for the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves, as they claimed both halves of a doubleheader against Louisa-Muscatine. The WMU boys jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter of play and held the line from there, defeating Louisa-Muscatine 62-50. It was another big offensive night for Wolves junior Cam Buffington, who scored a game-high 33 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jake Edwards hit four three-pointers to finish with 12 points and seven assists. Junior forward Abram Edwards scored just six points but affected every other facet of the game with 11 rebounds, seven assists and four blocked shots as Winfield-Mount Union improves to 9-1 in the Super Conference North and 10-2 overall.
The WMU girls led L&M 15-0 after the first eight minutes and cruised from there to a 59-14 victory. The Wolves, ranked 11th in the state in Class 1A, are still unbeaten and will put their 14-0 record on the line when both Winfield-Mount Union teams play next at Pekin tomorrow evening.
