The Columbus Wildcat wrestling team kept what’s been strong efforts of late by winning a trio of duals last night in Wayland. Columbus knocked off the host WACO Warriors 60-23 and also won 51-21 over Van Buren County and 54-15 over Pekin.
Junior Russell Coil continued his dominant season by pinning both of his opponents at 285 pounds. The Wildcats also got a pair of pins from freshman Bowen Thomson at 126 lbs; junior Cael Phillips at 138; freshman Trevor Phillips at 145; and junior Cole Storm at 160. Other winners for Columbus were sophomore Jacob Nelson at 106, freshman Jaxton Jones at 113 and junior Ian Estudillo at 120. The Wildcats will be heading to Centerville for their next wrestling tournament tomorrow.
Ahead of hosting the WACO Invitational this weekend, the Warriors defeated Pekin 45-18 but lost 42-33 to Van Buren County. Sophomore Louden Huisenga won a 10-3 decision and picked up a pin to take both his bouts at 160 lbs. while junior John Mclaughlin pinned both his opponents at 120. Senior Drew Diers and junior Jonathan Heather also picked up wins for WACO.
