The Columbus Wildcats took part in the Mike Halupnick Big Red Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Centerville, and while the Wildcats only finished eighth as a team, all eight Columbus wrestlers that participated finished seventh or better in their weight classes. Russell Coil continued his dominant season to pace the Wildcats, finishing second at 285 pounds. The junior pinned his first three opponents before dropping his final bout, a 3-1 sudden victory that is just Coil’s third loss of the season.

Columbus had three wrestlers take third place. Freshman Bowen Thomson was third at 126 lbs, as were juniors Cael Phillips and Cole Storm at 138 and 160, respectively. The Wildcats had a pair of fifth-place medalists in sophomores Riley Kaalberg at 170 and Jacob Nelson at 106, while junior Ian Estudillo finished sixth at 113 and senior Ethan Palmer was seventh at 182.
