The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back on their home floor for the first time since before the holidays tonight when they host the West Branch Bears in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys are 8-4 on the season and 4-2 in the River Valley after a hard-fought 57-52 win at Tipton Friday where Camron Pickard had 13 points and Alex Bean and Beau Flynn scored 10 each. On the year, the Hawks average 62 points per game and give up 57, shooting 38% from the floor, 29% from three and 72% at the line with 33 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Cameron Pickard at 15 points and four assists per game. Alex Bean averages 14 points, five boards and two steals per night.
West Branch is 5-8 this season and 3-3 in the River Valley. The Bears were a 77-49 winner over Durant Friday, doubling up on double doubles with Holden Arnaman’s 29 points and 10 assists and Reese Trepanier’s 13 points and 15 boards. This season, the Bears average 59 points per game and give up 60, shooting 47% from the floor, 36% from three and 61% at the line with 25 boards, 14 assists, seven steals and 12 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Arnaman with 21 points and six assists per night with Trepanier posting nine boards and two steals per game. The Bears have won 20 of the last 30 in the series including a 64-56 win in December of this year where Camron Pickard and Reese Trepanier each dualed with 23 points.
The Mid-Prairie girls are 7-5 this season after hammering Tipton on the road Friday 76-43 behind a quartet in double figures led by Landry Pacha with 16 points, Nora Pennington’s 15, Josie Greiner’s 12 and Amara Jones 11. This season, the Hawks average 53 points per night, giving up 44, shooting 36% from the floor, 27% from deep and 60% at the line with 37 rebounds, 12 assists, 13 steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Amara Jones and Landry Pacha each with 10 points per game. Jones has a team best five assists and four steals per night while Pacha leads with eight boards per game.
West Branch is 3-11 overall, 3-5 in the River Valley. They played last night, falling to Mount Vernon 47-25, with Sadie Smith and Kylie Pickett each scoring nine. This season the Bears average 36 points per game and give up 49, shooting 32% from the floor, 28% from three and 68% at the line with 24 rebounds, eight assists, nine steals and 19 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Pickett with 10 points and three steals per night. Smith has a team best five boards and Alyse Klinkkammer three assists. Mid-Prairie won on the Bears home floor in December 37-29 with 10 points from Jones. Action gets underway tonight at 6p.m. at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
