On Saturday, January 14, members of the Mid-Prairie Speech Team competed in the River Valley Conference Large Group Speech Contest at Bellevue High School. All nine groups competing for the Golden Hawks earned Division 1 Ratings.

The Readers Theatre group, with their “Bullies Anonymous” performance, included Christopher Burnham, Harlie Gehling, Isadora Goode, Logan McClellan, Jeremiah Rempel, and Caroline Schrader.

Three Ensemble Acting groups earned a Division 1 rating. Isabelle Duvall, Harlie Gehling, Isadora Goode, Abrielle Kraus, Daniel Rodgers, and Diego Sanchez performed a segment entitled “Amanda Freezes Time”. Haydon Bailey, Jacob Carrillo, Caroline Schrader, and Avery Slaubaugh earned a D-1 rating for their performance of “Weekend at Bundy’s,” and “Role of Della” was performed by Kenadi Fay, River Gehling, and Grace Puttmann.

In addition to a Division 1 rating in Musical Theatre, Haydon Bailey, Jack Greiner, and Avery Slaubaugh earned a 1st Place Best In Center Award for “Spamalot”. Logan McClellan and Jeremiah Rempel took 2nd Place Best in Center for their rendition of “SpongeBob Squarepants the Musical”.

Three different Group Improvisation teams finished with a Division 1 rating for their performances of “Tall and Small,” “Slimy Bread Yarn,” and “Fruity Iceberg”. This included Jillian Clark, Kenadi Fay, Christopher Burnham, Jacob Carrillo, Jack Greiner, River Gehling, Grace Puttmann, and Lincoln Wulf.

Under the direction of coaches Christine Meader and Lisa Helmuth, the Mid-Prairie Large Group Speech Team will compete in the District Contest this Saturday, January 21 at Keota High School.
