The Conference dual season comes to a close tonight for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team when they road trip to Durant for a River Valley Conference quad. The Hawks are 11-7 on the year after a 2-1 Senior Night Thursday in Wellman where they beat Maquoketa and Cascade before falling to Anamosa. According to this week’s Class 2A poll from IAwrestle.com, the Hawks have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Mose Yoder No. 12 at 113lbs. Kaden Meader has the team lead with 24 wins, and was a champion at Saturday’s WACO tournament. Yoder is second on the team with 21 victories.
Joining the Hawks tonight at Durant are Wilton, West Liberty and the home Wildcats. Wilton comes into action with an unbeaten 22-0 dual record this season. The Beavers are ranked No. 2 in Class 1A according to the latest dual rankings from IAwrestle.com. They took care of West Liberty Tuesday 69-10. The Beavers have a state leading 10 ranked wrestlers in their lineup including Mason Shirk No. 5 at 106lbs, Austin Etzel No. 7 at 113, Gabriel Brisker No. 5 at 120, Brody Brisker No. 4 at 126, Jordan Dusenberry No. 5 at 132, Trae Hagen No. 7 at 138, Owen Milder No. 9 at 160, Gaitlin Rogers No. 11 at 170, Kaden Shirk No. 3 at 182, and Alexander Kaufmann No. 7 at 285. The Beavers beat the Hawks a season ago 63-24 and 65-18.
West Liberty comes into the night 9-3 on the dual year after a loss to Wilton earlier this week. The Comets have three ranked wrestlers in their lineup according to the latest IAwrestle.com Class 2A poll with Collin Cassady No. 3 at 113lbs, Joshua Zeman No. 12 at 145 and Drake Collins No. 3 at 170lbs. West Liberty beat Mid-Prairie last year 62-18.
Durant is 4-18 in duals this year. Last weekend at the Ron Scott Duals they went 2-4 with wins over Central Decatur and Mount Ayr and losses to Cameron, Missouri, Martensdale St. Marys, Shenandoah and Southwest Valley. Trey Ramer leads the Wildcats this season with 25 wins. The Hawks beat Durant last season 54-29. Action starts tonight at 5:30 at Durant High School.
