The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams make the trip to West Liberty Friday for a River Valley Conference doubleheader with the Comets. The Mid-Prairie girls are 8-5 this year, 5-2 in the River Valley and unbeaten since Christmas after a 46-37 win Tuesday in Wellman over West Branch where Nora Pennington led the way with nine points. This year, Mid-Prairie averages 53 points per game and gives up 43, shooting 37% from the floor, 27% from three and 59% at the line with 37 rebounds, 12 assists, 13 steals and 16 turnovers. Individual leaders include Amara Jones at 11 points, five assists and five steals per game with Landry Pacha at seven boards per night.

West Liberty is 9-4 this year, 7-1 in the RVC. The Comets are ranked No. 13 in Class 3A in the latest poll issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Tuesday they topped Tipton 56-41. The Comets average 58 points per game and give up 48 at 35% from the floor, 25% from three and 63% at the line with 34 boards, 14 assists, 13 steals and 11 turnovers per game. Kelsey Joens leads West Liberty in all categories with 24 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals per game. The Comets beat the Hawks in Wellman this season 55-50 and have won eight of the last nine in the series.

The Golden Hawk boys are trying to bounce back after a 64-44 home loss to West Branch Tuesday that dropped them to 8-5 overall, 4-3 in the RVC. On the year, they post 60 points per game and give up 57, shooting 37% from the floor, 30% from three and 72% at the line with 32 rebounds, 12 assists, nine steals and 12 turnovers. Camron Pickard has 15 points and four assists per night to lead Mid-Prairie, Alex Bean adds a team best five boards and two steals.

West Liberty is 4-9 this season 2-6 in the River Valley. They lost to Tipton Tuesday 60-50. The Comets score 49 per game and give up 59, shooting 41% from the floor, 25% from deep and 54% at the line with 22 boards, 10 assists, nine steals and 17 turnovers. Jayce McHugh is the individual leader at 14 points and three steals per game. Ty Jones averages five boards and Ryker Dengler three assists. These two teams met in December with Mid-Prairie scoring a 71-41 win. The Hawks have beaten the Comets 14 straight times.
