The Brighton City Council met on Tuesday, once again speaking with members of the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department, and representatives from the townships it serves. This comes one week after mediator, Patrick Callahan, met with the same parties regarding the ongoing dispute over the 28E Agreement.
Despite no official action being taken during the most recent meeting, discussions left many with a sense of optimism that the issue can ultimately be resolved. City officials plan to meet next Wednesday with a representative from each involved party to further talks on a fire advisory board, which is at the center of the conflict. While both sides seem to be in favor of creating such a board, the disagreement arises from whether or not it should have budgeting power in regards to the fire department.
The Brighton City Council will resume conversations on the matter at their next regular meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, February 6 at 6 p.m.
