A pair of area boys wrestling teams take the mat in Traer today at the North Tama Redhawk Invite. Mid-Prairie is coming off of a 2-1 night in dual action Thursday at Durant with wins over West Liberty and the Wildcats and a loss to No. 2 Wilton. Terry Bordenave was undefeated with three pins on the night with Evan Phillips and Quinn Callahan both going 2-0. Last Saturday at the WACO Tournament, the Hawks were fourth of 16 teams and crowned Kaden Meader as an individual champ. Coming into the day, the Hawks have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Mose Yoder at No. 12 at 113lbs in Class 2A in the latest poll from IAwrestle.com. Meader has the team lead with 27 wins, followed by Yoder with 23.
Sigourney-Keota is coming off of a 3-0 night Thursday, sweeping Moravia, Belle Plaine and HLV to wrap up their dual season with a 13-4 record. Ashton Schwab went 3-0 with three falls on the night, Austin Gorsh, Dan McLaughlin and DJ Hammes were all unbeaten. SK has a pair of ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Reanah Utterback No. 10 at 106lbs and Jack Clarahan No. 3 at 170lbs in the latest IAwrestle.com poll for Class 1A. Clarahan has the team lead with 29 wins, followed by Utterback’s 24, and Jake Moore’s 22.
Joining Mid-Prairie and SK today are Baxter, BGM, Waterloo Columbus, HLV, Hudson, Tripoli and the home Red Hawks. Action continues all day Saturday at North Tama High School.
