History comes alive at Winfield-Mt. Union Elementary School with the Living Museum and Cultural Fair on Tuesday, January 24. The event runs from 5:30-7 p.m. on the second level of the school.
Guests can tour the library, upstairs hallway, and classrooms, where they will see fourth and fifth grade students dressed as the historical figure of their choosing. The living aspect comes from the presentations themselves. As student Micah Nelson tells KCII, “Its in first person.” Fellow student Jake Cummings elaborates “The speeches are going to be like the character is speaking it. Instead of saying ‘he went to the store,’ it’s like ‘I went to the store’”.
WMU high school students taking Spanish 3 and Spanish 4 will also be on hand, sharing information about Spanish culture, along with offering a variety of ethnic foods for attendees to try.
Students have been working hard on the project since returning from Christmas Break. Student Serenity Woodsmall encourages everyone to attend, especially fellow children. “I think if they ever bring kids, they can learn more about people that aren’t as common like Meriwether Lewis. Some little kids might actually think, ‘Wow! I’ve never learned about that. That actually is cool.’”
The event is no cost, and open to all ages.
