The Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles split their rivalry basketball doubleheader Friday night. The Sigourney girls jumped out to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a 10-point lead going into halftime. The Savages saw their advantage swell to 17 heading into the final period and never looked back, defeating Keota 51-29.

Junior Carly Goodwin came through with a big night for Sigourney, scoring a game-high 18 points and also contributing six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Sophomore Josephine Moore added 12 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot, while senior Zoe Webb’s 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals helped the Savages improve to 7-5 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 10-7 overall.

The Keota girls fell to 5-7 in conference play and 6-11 overall, but the Eagle boys kept their excellent season rolling with a 67-55 victory over Sigourney. Keota led 19-14 after one quarter and couldn’t extend the lead to a comfortable margin until the third quarter, but the Eagles still got the job done to move to 11-2 in conference action and 14-3 overall. The Savages drop to 6-7 in league action and 8-9 overall. Both Keota teams meet Iowa Valley tomorrow evening, while both Sigourney squads are visiting Highland tonight.
