Iowans who have yet to do so are encouraged to complete their report forms for the 2022 Census of Agriculture. The deadline for responses is Monday, February 6.

Conducted every five years, the Census of Agriculture keeps a count of America’s farms and ranches, the people who operate them, and the crops and livestock they produce. Results help the United States Department of Agriculture make informed decisions when shaping future programs and policies. In the 2017 Census, 1,129 farms in Washington County participated.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, echoed the significance of the census, and urged Iowans to complete it before the deadline. “It’s very important to how the USDA manages some of their programs, understanding what’s happening with population growth or decline from an agriculture standpoint,” Naig told KCII “It’s critically important that we have a high response level.”
