It was a successful dual season for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team. The Hawks finished 14-7 overall, tying the school record for most dual wins in a season, set in the 2017-18 season when the Hawks finished 14-13, and tied again in 2019-20 with a 14-14 season. It’s Mid-Prairie’s fourth consecutive non-losing season and their eighth in the last 10 years. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Randy Billups joined the KCII PM Sports Page and talked about how the dual season came together for the Hawks. “I wasn’t really keeping track of them at the beginning. Toward the end we wrestled the Bellevue dual and we won all three. Then, we came out the next week and won two. Pretty soon the kids asked me ‘Coach, how many wins do we have? We gotta be getting close!’ I went back and looked and thought, we really did pour it on at the end of the season. They really came together as a team. They kept making goals at the beginning of every quad. It was a great season!”
Mid-Prairie closed the year strong, going 9-2 after Christmas, including a quad sweep over Bellevue, Camanche and Northeast January 5th and a tri sweep January 10th over Center Point-Urbana and North Linn. The Hawks have 14 different athletes with winning records this season, led by Kaden Meader’s 29 victories. Other’s who have reached the 20 victory mark include: Mose Yoder with 26, Terry Bordenave with 21 and Burke Berry and Quinn Callahan with 20 each. The Golden Hawks will next be in action Saturday at the River Valley Conference Championship meet at West Branch.
