The Keota Eagles split a doubleheader in the South Iowa Cedar League Tuesday night, with the Keota boys continuing their excellent season by defeating Iowa Valley 63-52. The Eagles led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but Iowa Valley would respond and take a three-point lead into halftime. Keota bounced back by getting back in front by one at the end of the third period and used a 20-10 run to close the game.
Junior guard Sawyer Stout poured in a game-high 20 points and hit four three-pointers to lead the Eagles. Junior point guard Cole Kindred put up 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals, while junior forward Evan Vittetoe came up with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Billie Kindred’s seven points, seven boards and three assists rounded out a strong night from the Eagles, who improve to 12-2 in conference play and 15-3 overall.
The Keota girls were down 14-2 after a quarter of play and could never recover in a 51-22 loss to Iowa Valley. The Eagles drop to 5-8 in league action and 6-12 overall. Both Keota teams next take on Tri-County tomorrow.
