The biggest day on the girls wrestling calendar has arrived in southeast Iowa. The Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids is the host site for all KCII-area athletes and their first ever girls state qualifying Super-District meet.

The Washington Demons enter the meet with one ranked wrestler in their lineup. Senior Teegan Sulentich is No. 2 at 155lbs with a 28-4 overall record. Other Demons in action today include Jillian Langstraat, Ryen Pepper, Zoe Lewis, Peggy Miller and Jenna Bose.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks also have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Gabi Robertson standing at No. 7 at 100lbs. Also competing today for the Hawks are Hannah Jamieson, Kenda Shqair, Ashlee Farrier, Marissa Cline, Ellie Brenneman, Grace Conway, Mia Garvey, Ellie Callahan and Sam Stacey.

The Highland Huskies are in Cedar Rapids today looking to punch tickets. Lilly Barre leads Highland into the fray with a  team best 26-9 record this year. Other Huskies on the mat include Abbie Grout, Mackenzie McFarland, Angelina Roling and Lexie Skipton.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union girls will be looking for bids to state Friday. Dakota Storm is 11-5 on the season to lead the ‘Cats. Other Wildcat wrestlers in action include Arianna Navarro, Quinn Smith, Dahlia Valdez, Yaleen Miranda, Audrey Hoback, Lecet Quiroz, Miriam Ruvalcaba, Emily Miranda and Alynna Leos.

The WACO Warriors open the postseason today in Cedar Rapids. Senior Bralyyn Wagler is ranked No. 9  at 235lbs coming into action. Other Warriors competing include Elyssa Graber, Rylee Rice, Heaven Steege, Destiny Boone, Emma Shebshack and Grace Fort.

Those five teams will be joined by 45 others. The top four finishers from each weight class advance to next week’s state meet at Xtream Arena in Coralville. The eight round tournament begins at 11a.m. Friday and continues into Friday night at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids.
