family-connection

Following their closure in Washington County, the Family Connection program in Henry County has expanded to serve both communities.

Supporting approximately 50 families in southeast Iowa, Family Connection is funded by the Early Childhood Iowa grant, as well as donations. The program serves families from pregnancy, until the child is around five years old.

Using a four-pronged approach, Family Connection consists of private home meetings, classes for parents, play groups, and activities for families. With weekly check-ins and at least two home-visits per month, the program serves as an informational resource for parents on anything from nutrition, to early childhood education. Additionally, an incentive program allows parents to earn points that can be redeemed for baby and household items such as diapers, infant toys, and laundry detergent.

For more information, or to donate items to Family Connection, call 319-385-8126 or 319-385-4090. Donations may also be brought to the Henry County Iowa State Extension Office at 127 N. Main Street in Mount Pleasant.
