Columbus High School will be sending ten students to the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Large Group Contest this Saturday. The group earned the trip to state after receiving a Division 1 rating for their Reader’s Theatre performance at the District Contest in Keota on Saturday, January 21.
Performing a script entitled “Drama Geeks,” the Reader’s Theatre group heading to state includes Miriam Ruvalcaba, Averi Sipes, Sarai Vela, Alexa Alcala, Jenny Castellanos, Lecet Quiroz, Dakota Storm, Damian Vergara, Jakolby Sipes, and Jocelyn Hernandez.
Students Adan Martinez, Timothy Hills-Carrier, and Damian Vergara represented Columbus in Group Improvisational Acting at the District Contest. They received a Division 2 rating for their performance of the prompt “Arriving on a new planet.” The Wildcats are led by coach Holly Canny.
The Columbus Speech Team’s Reader’s Theatre group will perform at the IHSSA State Large Group Contest on Saturday, February 4 at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.
