On Wednesday, at approximately 1:23 a.m. a Fairfield Police Officer on patrol observed a stolen vehicle leaving a Casey’s General Store on Libertyville Road in Fairfield.

After the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Officers with the Fairfield Police Department and deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office pursued the vehicle onto Highway 34, back into Fairfield city limits. The vehicle entered the City of Libertyville, before continuing west into Wapello County.

Deputies with the Wapello Sheriff’s Office then joined the pursuit, which moved through the City of Eldon, Highway 16, and Ashland Road. Multiple pursuit intervention techniques were attempted, but were unsuccessful. The chase came to a stop on the south side of Agency when the vehicle left the roadway, entered a steep ravine, and the driver fled on foot.

Law enforcement quickly apprehended 26-year-old Ryan Richard Reed of Eldon and transported him to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Reed was charged with possession of stolen property, a class D felony, eluding, a class D felony, driving while license barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and reckless driving, a simple misdemeanor. Reed also had approximately eight outstanding warrants for his arrest from surrounding agencies.

Reed is being held on bond pending an initial court appearance.
