With one week remaining in the Pennies for Patients event at Sigourney High School, a total of $855.39 in donations has been collected so far.

Organized by the Sigourney National Honor Society, this year’s event benefits the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System. Last year’s event raised $1,227.76 for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital, the most in its over-20-year history.

As students edge closer to breaking that record, the community will have their final opportunity to contribute to the cause at the girls’ district basketball game on Thursday, February 9 at 7 p.m.

Ten Sigourney staff members have volunteered to take part in the event. As President for NHS, Macy Fisch tells KCII, “We have teachers’ faces and coaches’ faces on certain buckets, so whatever teacher or coach gets the most money in their bucket, we’re going to have a Pep Rally Assembly and they’ll get a pie in their face.”

The Pennies for Patients event concludes at the assembly on Friday, February 10.
