Mid-Prairie FFA members joined nearly 700 fellow students from over 100 schools at the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines for the 38th Legislative Symposium & FFA Day on Tuesday, January 31.

Thirteen Golden Hawks made the trip, including Quinn Callahan, Alexa Huber, Brynn Northup, Blake Peck, Payton Peck, Caitlynn Peters, Charlotte Sieren, Greta Sieren, Madelyn Sieren, Jacey Sisson, Allie Whetstine, Kelyn Yoder, and Brynn Younge. They were accompanied by FFA Advisor for Mid Prairie, Elsa Schmidt, and student teacher, Kristy Thomann.

Students toured the Capitol, learned about its history, and how the state government works. They even had the chance to meet with and ask questions of State Senator, Dawn Driscoll, and State Representatives, Heather Hora and Brad Sherman.

The Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol is scheduled every year to give students the opportunity to learn about the legislative process, discuss agricultural issues, and advocate for agricultural education and FFA.
