On Wednesday, February 1, an Iowa Wesleyan University Minibus carrying seven students rolled onto its side just east of Des Moines. Four students who sustained minor injuries were transported to local Des Moines Hospitals and have since been released.

The group was traveling to the State Capitol to participate in LGBTQ Day on the Hill when the incident occurred. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where preliminary details indicated that the driver, a faculty member, lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected. An investigation is being conducted to find out what caused the driver to lose control.

In a news statement released by IWU President, Christine Plunkett, the university expressed its appreciation to the first responders and emergency medical staff who provided help to their students.
