On Saturday, February 4, eight Mid-Prairie Large Group Speech groups competed at the IHSSA State Contest in Cedar Rapids. Four of those groups including twelve students received all-state nominations, something only five percent of performers achieve.
While not every group nominated for the All-State Festival is able to perform at the event, two of the four Golden Hawk groups received that honor. This includes the Musical Theatre group of Haydon Bailey, Jack Greiner, and Avery Slaubaugh for “Spamalot”. The Improvisational Acting duo of Jillian Clark and Kenadi Fay will also be performing following their nomination for “Tall and Small”.
Two Ensemble Acting groups received nominations as non-performers. “Weekend at Bundy’s” was presented by Haydon Bailey, Jacob Carrillo, Caroline Schrader, and Avery Slaubaugh. Isabelle Duvall, Harlie Gehling, Isadora Goode, Jillian Clark, Daniel Rodgers, and Diego Sanchez earned the final nomination for the Golden Hawks with “Amanda Freezes Time”.
The Mid-Prairie Musical Theatre and Improv Acting groups will perform at the 2023 IHSSA Large Group All-State Festival on Saturday, February 18 at Iowa State University.
